Ending the Year with a Bang!

Flagstaff High School had its annual prom on May 2nd, from 7PM-12 AM, and Coconino Community College let us dance the night away in the Lone Tree Campus. The theme for this wonderful dance was Fairy Tales Beginnings, where students could dress up like they're straight from the forest, and feel the magic in the decorated room as they made ever-lasting memories with their friends.

The Student Council definitely outdid themselves with the decorations this year. One thing that most who have attended a dance before definitely did not expect was the wide collection of sweet treats! There was chocolate covered strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, etc. and of course, some ice-cold water to cool you down after jumping in the pit. Speaking of the pit, there was a cameraman recording and so many people could be seen absolutely rocking the dance floor and tearing it up, so STUCO can definitely take bragging rights and pat themselves on the back. The last thing that is valuable to mention, was the photo booth. We don't know who was taking the photos but that person definitely loved their job, and had everyone looking their best.

This night must have had almost every senior ecstatic, and severely saddened, for this was their very last high school dance. Prom has to be one of the most important events for the seniors, almost serving as a last hurrah before everyone goes their separate ways. Most might see prom as just another event where you can dress up all fancy, and try your hardest to look as good as possible, but if you look closer, this dance could be more about the shared memories. Whether you're a junior or a senior, high school is ending so very fast, and there aren't that many more opportunities to make memories with the people you have spent years with. I asked my friend Senaida Nuñez, a senior at FHS if she enjoyed prom, and if she will be missing the school dances when she graduates and she replied “yes, I enjoyed prom because the decorations were very nice, the music choices were amazing, and I felt like the people running prom really tried and wanted us to enjoy the dance. I will be missing school dances because I will never experience hanging out with my friends and having to make plans on our own again, and enjoy the time we have while at school.”

The venue was amazing, and so many good and lasting memories were made between everyone who attended this year's prom. Class of 2026 is what matters when it comes to prom, and the seniors could not be happier, so thanks to all of the Juniors in STUCO who made sure this night would become something no senior could forget.
